Common Sense

COMMON SENSE

We mourn the passing of a beloved old friend Common Sense, who has been with us many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his records have long since been lost in bureaucratic red tape. He is credited with cultivating such abilities as taking bitter with sweet, recognising that life is not always fair and that maybe, it was my fault after all.

Common Sense developed some sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn, don’t borrow more than you can repay)  and also a reliable parenting strategy (adults, not children, are in charge).

Common Sense’s health declined in the 1960s, when he became infected with the If-it feels-good-do-it virus. His health further deteriorated when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun-lotion or elastoplasts to a student , but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and asked for an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live when the Ten Commandants could not be publicly displayed for fear of giving offence: churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you could not defend yourself in your own home but the intruder could sue for assault. He finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled some in his lap while driving and was awarded massive damages.

Common Sense was preceded by the death of his parents truth & Trust, his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility and his son Reason. He is survived by his four stepbrothers ; I Know My Rights, I want it Know, Someone Else is to Blame and I’m a Victim.

Farewell, Common Sense, may you rest in peace.

LATEST NEWS

Can someone please explain how the sharing the Chief Executive of East Hampshire District Council  with Havant Borough Council will in the long run save the people of East Hampshire which includes Petersfield money ?

Farewell, Common Sense, on this occasion.  The leader of the Council, Councillor Ferris for  EHDC is excited about the prospect of job sharing. Penns Place will in future possibly have a chief executive for say 2 days a week instead of the usual 5. The notion of job sharing is to save part of the salary which would have been paid to a permanent member of staff.  The deputy chief executive will no doubt take on more responsibility, and pay expect more remuneration.

Those immediately under the deputy may feel that they have to take on more responibility , and request more money.

A poor move on this occasion Council Leader Ferris Cowper. Now the new leader will be responsible for the implementing of the new system

STREET WATCH

Having been in operation for 2 years it is worrying that only 75 members of the public have been persuaded to take part. The notion that simply walking down a locality for 2 hours a month with a flourescent jacket on marked Street Watch on the back, will in some
way reduce crime is something of a misnomer. Our local head of police has now widened his operations from just East Hampshire to now include North Hampshire as well.   In the meantime, while all this is going on ,we in Petersfield , have had the hours at our Police Station closed at the week-end and now we are about to lose our traffic warden.  Despite all , we are informed that Street Watch is the way forward and is a natural extention of Neigbourhood Watch which has been established for a long time.  I wonder what would happen in Dragons Den  . Can you imagine some of the comments....!!!

The latest news is that information packs have been sent out to police all over, Sussex, Wiltshire, as well as Devon & Cornwall
WHAT BRILLIANT NEWS  AND WE IN EAST HAMPSHIRE ARE MAKING THE FINANCIAL COMMITTMENT BOTH IN TIME AND MONEY.
